Taking care of my feelings. I ask myself these 5 questions.

I try to take a half hour of quiet time every day, either in the morning or at night. It's a way I take care of myself. I'm not perfect about it, so some days I miss. I give it a serious go, though.

I know that I'm at my best when I find a quiet half hour all by myself in the morning. During the half hour I settle and see how I feel. If I've had an experience or encounter and angry, resentful, or flustered, etc. feelings arise, I ask myself these questions:

What happened? 
How do I feel? 
How does what happened affect me? 
What is my part in what happened? 
What can I learn from what happened? 

The most helpful question is the fourth, about my part. Answering that one shows me what I can do, what I can change about myself.

Before my quiet time ends, I think about things I'm grateful for. I write them down. I sometimes write a gratitude on a slip of paper and put it in a wood box that sits on my reading table. Here's the tricky part, every one is new. This keeps my view of the gifts in my life fresh.
